Bleeker is no doubt a school where almost every student loves our basketball team. Luckily, being a part of the Bleeker Bulletin has given us an amazing opportunity as reporters to interview some of the team’s players. We asked all of the players the same questions to see different point of views on their team.
Q:Do you think that tryouts were challenging for your skill level? Stanley Zhu (Junior Varsity): “It was challenging for the people that were very short like me.” Fiona McArdle(Girls): “I think that Mr.Hamilton made us run a lot to test endurance because basketball is all about if you can last and outrun your opponents.” Q:How has basketball affected your life? Stanley Zhu(Junior Varsity):”It made my competitiveness level higher and has motivated me a lot.” Fiona McArdle(Girls):“It allowed me to make friends that I wouldn’t be able to make if I weren’t on the team.” Q:What do you hope to get out from this basketball team this season? Stanley Zhu(Junior Varsity):”I want to be better than I was at tryouts and win and have fun.” Nikkie Lin(Varsity):“This season, I want to win the championships because last year we were close, but we lost the game.” Interestingly enough, we asked 134 Bleeker students if you play basketball and 71 said no and 63 said yes! Also, we asked 133 Bleeker students whether or not they wanted to learn more about basketball and 67 said no, while 66 said yes. Due to these results, we will be writing another article about basketball. We are very grateful for the great responses in this article. We hope to report more on the Bleeker basketball team in the future when they win the championship. The basketball team should have their first game within 1 month. Thank you for everyone’s participation and keep reading for more!

Thanksgiving is not only a time for feasting on turkey and food. It is also an holiday where you give thanks for the things you appreciate. Many people do not take the time to acknowledge and think about the things that make them who they are today because they want more than they need or have. Most of us are very lucky because we have everything we need, but some kids around the world are poor and can’t afford the things they need, which is another reason we should be thankful. Being thankful sometimes make people feel better about themselves if they know they are appreciated for the effort they put into their work.
What are some things you are thankful for? First of all, I am thankful for my family who support me in everything I do since day one and provide me food and love and a home. Secondly, I am thankful for my teachers because they taught me many things, which is one reason why I know so much. Finally, I am thankful for my friends because I know they always have my back. Let’s try to change the world by appreciating everything we have this Thanksgiving. This month’s teacher special spotlight teacher is Mrs. Galloway! Mrs. Galloway is a 7th grade science teacher and has been part of the Bleeker family for 10 years now. She was born in Houston, Texas and after she Graduated from Plattsburgh State University, that was 30 minutes away from the Canadian border, she moved to upstate New York and lived there for 2 years and eventually became a science teacher here in Flushing. She married this past June so let’s all congratulate her for that! Here we have some questions that we asked; Q:What made you want to be a want to become a middle school science teacher? “I loved science in middle school. My favorite teacher was my 6th grade science teacher.” Q:What is your favorite part of being a teacher? “Every day is something different. It’s never the same old. There’s no way to get bored.” Q:If you weren’t a teacher what would you want to be? “A Marine Biologist. I always loved going to aquarium, going to the beach and being in the water.” Q:What is Bleeker to you? “Bleeker is a large community of people that you can trust and rely on, everyone is there to support one another.” Thank you Mrs.Galloway for allowing us to interview her and hope she continues to do what she loves and stay as a great member of this large community! After school, many kids run straight to the deli to buy a cup of warm Cup o Noodles or go home to cook some simple Ramen. Most kids spend a lot of money just to buy these easy-to-make noodles. This snack is definitely a popular snack for Bleeker students and many kids will even have instant noodles for breakfast. Now the real question is: which one is better? Cup o Noodles or Ramen? According to the results of our survey, more people from the school like Ramen more than Cup o Noodles. Overall, 47.4% of people voted for Ramen, while only 25.3% of people voted for Cup o Noodles. Surprisingly, 27.4% of students chose “other” as an option. Although they didn’t specify, it’s either because they liked them both or like other noodle types. Some reasons why Ramen is better is because ramen had better taste and is more spicy. But some disagree and say that Cup o Noodles has its good points as well. They say that it is efficient and is cheaper than ramen. However, the results confirm that most students like Ramen better. One student who took the survey claimed, “They are the noodles that you work hard to make and all of your effort is put into it so you should feel satisfaction when you finish making the ramen noodles.” We could see that this student likes Ramen because of the satisfaction of making ramen noodles and is joyful about the fulfillment of their success. It is the mere start of the school year and our fantastic school’s awesome CLP classes have already accomplished their first project! This time, our awesome CLP team (607, 608, 612, 709, and 710) worked on a project called Uniting Generations. Like the title states, the students in the CLP class will be sealed the generation gap between our society’s elderly and our society’s kids by helping the older folks. For instance, one thing that our generation has that the older generations are not as familiar with is technology. Every day in school we use laptops, iPads, and Smartboards in order to learn, whereas these tools aren’t as prominent in the average life of an older person. The CLP students created trifold displays plus and a little something extra (e.g. a video tutorials) to display at the event to teach the older visitors how to use different technologies. On Saturday, October 22nd, the students invited their family members, specifically those that are not as tech-savvy, to come and learn about technology. Students presented tutorials on how to use many different types of popular technology, from home automation and music streaming to hashtags and Instagram. “I am excited because it lets me learn communication skills to help others who can’t clearly understand modern-day technology. My grandmother always asks me to help her with simple technology...this is a good way for my grandmother to learn more about technology so that I don’t have to always have to tell her what to do,” says Valeria Lopez, one of the CLP students in class 709. At the event, dozens of seniors attended and were able to learn a lot about how to use the technology of today and also tour our amazing school!
Welcome back to Bleeker Junior High! We all know that many of you here love to be active, but when it starts to get cold again, it's difficult to play outside like you did in the summer. We have a few sports that you could play outside even in the coldest of weathers.
2. Skiing: The next sport is skiing, which is another great sport for the winter. Make sure to ski at a place designed for skiing, like a ski lodge. Also, take lessons because it is not easy. Skiing is sliding down a hill with snow on skis. Do not attempt skiing in a non-verified zone. Skiing is very fun but can be very dangerous if not done properly. Skiing is very satisfying and high-speed fun you guys should try it next time you’re in upstate New York during winter. 3. Ice skating: Our final sport for this edition is ice skating. Ice skating is a beautiful sport done, as you guessed, on the ice. As we said for ice hockey, don’t play on a frozen lake only verified places. Ice skating is such a beautiful sport because it’s a mixture of dance and skating on the ice. Ice skating is a sport for people who like routines and dance. I recommend this sport for determined athletes because it may take some time. We hope you found this article useful and you find new ways to constantly stay active. Even if you have basketball fever, try something new and maybe you’ll just like it. Thank you. After a long time of waiting, the results are in! Let’s find out who the winning candidates are for this year.
It is a new school year for our 6th grade president, Vincent Farruggio, so let’s welcome him with open arms to the Bleeker family. This is her second time running for president, and this year, she finally won! Let’s give a hand for Daniela Garcia, our 7th grade president. Last, but not least, our 8th grade president is... Michelle Kwon! Congratulations to all of the candidates that won this year for student president. We interviewed the 7th grade president, Daniel Garcia about her opinions on being president. Q: How will you contribute to making the school a better place for students? A: I will take all of the students’ ideas into account and focus on bringing programs such as ADL to the students so that they can be more involved with the SGA. Q: Are you planning to add any extra activities during school hour? A: I feel like the school has many great activities, but the more the merrier. Students who want more activities can suggest them and I’ll do my best to make it work. Q: What is your first project for being president? A: It’s a secret, my mouth is zipped! Congratulations to all the grade presidents and good luck next time to those who didn’t win. |
